Energy System Overview
Ohio weakened its renewable energy portfolio standard in 2014. The state had a major nuclear subsidy scandal (House Bill 6, 2019) where utilities paid $60M in bribes for a $1B nuclear bailout. Despite this, Ohio has growing solar and wind.
2026 Political Impact
Ohio energy politics are dominated by natural gas interests. The HB 6 corruption scandal was a significant political issue. Clean energy jobs are growing but fossil fuel political influence remains strong.
